Do Dogs Have Allergies—Really? Is That A Real Thing?

I love dogs. I love puppies even more! Of course, my puppies have all grown into dogs now. In fact, they are senior citizens! So, to get my ‘fix’ of puppies, I love to stop in at Petland Naperville, where on any given day, they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale. This gives me a great place to observe many different
breeds of dogs in one setting. Today I watched two puppies called Chinese Shar-Peis. I used to own two Shar-Peis, so I naturally wanted to play with them. I started a conversation with a Pet Counselor about this breed, and we had a very educational talk.

Female Dog Names—What’s Popular?

I love dogs. I love puppies even more! Of course, my puppies have all grown into dogs now. In fact, they are senior citizens! It’s weird, sometimes I’ll tell someone the names of my dogs, and they look at me funny. I feel like I need to explain why my dog is named something. Sure, my 5 pound Chihuahua’s name speaks for itself—Bitsy, But, I still feel the need to explain that it’s really Itsy Bitsy, because she was aboutthe size of a Beenie Baby when I took her home. The same goes for my Hairless Chinese Crested, Flower. I always feel the need to explain that she was named after the skunk in Bambi, since she has skunk-like hair on her head. So, I asked myself, Female Dog Names—What’s Popular? I decided to do some research on the subject.

Puppy Training: Where Do I Start?

It’s very interesting—someone can be so excited about bringing a puppy into their home, but the moment the puppy crosses the threshold, the excitement stops there. In its place—the fear of “will I have the only dog on the planet that can’t be trained? I think that worry crosses every new pet owner’s mind. So, for all those new “moms” and “dads” out there, I thought I’d write a little about puppy training: where do I start?

Breeds of Dogs That Are Suitable For Hunting

I’m searching for the perfect dog. Of course, “perfect” is in the eye of the beholder. Today, I wanted to find breeds of dogs that are suitable for hunting. What makes a perfect hunting dog? Do dogs still hunt in this day and age? I headed for Petland Naperville, where on any given day, they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale. This gives me a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting, and to compare different breeds that are considered suitable for hunting. I was greeted by a Pet Counselor, who was very knowledgeable about hunting breeds.

A Small Breed Dog, The Maltese

I especially like to visit Petland Naperville, because they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale at any given time! This not only gives their customers a TON of puppy breeds to choose from, but it also gives me a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting. About Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers

Recently, a friend of mine added a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier to her household. Unfortunately, she lives in another state, so I can’t go over to her house to congratulate her in person (translate: go over and snuggle with her new puppy!). So, I did the next-best thing to playing with her Wheaten Terrier—I went to Petland Naperville to inquire whether or not they had this breed. This place is a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting, because they usually have upwards of 100 puppies available on any given day. As luck would have it, today they had a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and I was the lucky one who got to play with this beautiful little puppy. I also learned a lot about this breed, because my Pet Counselor was very knowledgeable about this dog. READ MORE...

Miniature Schnauzer

I love going to Petland Naperville. On any given day, they have somewhere from 80 to over 100 puppies! You’re sure to find what you’re looking for (and then some!). I made time today to stop by and see if they have any puppies that I grew up with. Today, a couple of puppies caught my eye. You see, I grew up with Miniature Schnauzers. My family had pure black Schnauzers and also the salt-and-pepper variety (kind of a dark and light silver variety). Today, though, I saw two kinds of schnauzers that I had never seen before, and boy, did I fall in love with them! READ MORE...

The Newfoundland is a Great Dog

Today I decided to stop by Petland Naperville to see what puppies they had available. Once there, I was drawn to a beautiful black and white Newfoundland. I absolutely love this breed—the Newfoundland is a great dog. It is big (females can be up to 120 pounds and males can reach up to 150 pounds!), strong, gentle and smart. Here’s an interesting fact—one Newfoundland was recorded as weighing 260 pounds! They are easy to train. They have gained the nickname “Gentle Giant” because of their size and demeanor. READ MORE...

Snug as a Pug in a Rug

Today I went to Petland Naperville to play with some of their puppies. I first played with a Pug—the typical color of tan with a blackened face. It reminded me of the “Men in Black” movie, and it also had a bug-like face in my opinion. For some reason, I started thinking of things that rhyme with “Pug” and came up with Snug as a Bug in a Rug! As I held this puppy, I could picture her swaddled up in a little doggy blanket. This breed of dog, of course, stays fairly small. As an adult, they stand approximately one foot in height and usually weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. After playing with this Pug, I was drawn to a beautiful, pure white Pug. I have never seen a white one before, and he had a great look—both his face and his coat were pure white. My Pet Counselor explained to me that this was the first white-coated Pug to grace the Petland stores. READ MORE...

COCKER SPANIEL: A BREED ALL ITS OWN

I’m searching for the perfect dog. Of course, “perfect” is in the eye of the beholder. That can be seen on any given day at Petland Naperville, where they can have up to 100 (or more!) different puppies for sale. This gives me a great place to observe many different breeds of dogs in one setting. Today I watched a Cocker Spaniel. I was somewhat familiar with this breed, since my parents owned one many years ago. I decided that rather than rely on my memory, I would speak with a Pet Counselor about them. She told me that the Cocker Spaniel is a breed all its own. There are actually TWO breeds of cocker spaniels—the English Cocker Spaniel and the American Cocker Spaniel. For simplicity, most people just refer to both breeds as simply “Cocker Spaniel.” They are the smallest members of the Sporting Breeds, and used to chase birds (including the woodcock, its namesake).
